Cornelius chuckles, and you hear him say something, just away from the phone, which you can't make out. You hear a flash of the response, from a voice you don't recognise.
"Bring him in."
Cornelius speaks to you again.
"Excellent work. I'm coming over straight away. We have things to discuss."

Luke tenses at the sound of the second voice. He tries not to let it worry him, but the whole process so far has been... Well, not what he's used to, that's for damn sure.
"Uh, Right. I'll be waiting." He tries to sound cool about it, but it never seems to work with Cornelius.
He could always spend the time waiting wondering what was going on. That, and pacing.

It's about 20 minutes later when you pick up Cornelius' car on your 'street-cam'. He, and another man, who you don't recognise, get out of the car. Slightly nervous at this new appearance as you are, you still can't help but be amused at watching Cornelius extricating himself from the car. You've never quite understood how he does it.

Once Cornelius is out Luke turns away from the monitors and goes out to meet them.

You hit the street, and approach Cornelius, who smiles on seeing you.
That's a new one.
"Luke, shall we go for a ride?"
You're pretty sure it isn't a question. Best to run with it.

Luke forces a smile, one that he hopes looks genuine.
"Sure," he says.
He'd decided in the time spent waiting that the less he spoke, the less likely he'd betray his nervousness. Horrible thing for someone like him to still suffer from. He never understood why he still did.

They get back in the car, and you follow, slightly nervous about the stranger. Once you've moved off, Corenelius speaks
"Luke, this is Jason, a, benefactor, of ours."
"What have you to report of the target?"

It takes Luke a moment to order all the information in his head, just to keep himself from blurting it out in an incoherent mess. The thought strikes, just as he begins to speak, that may it's not enough, or not useful to them, and then what would happen?
"Well, uh... I have the address of these apartments when he came to the US... and he changed his name... uh..."
He gives the address, and any other details that slipped his mind from when he first opened his mouth.

For once, it seems Cornelius is not in charge. He doesn't reply to your information, but instead turns to Jason for a reaction. Jason nods, almost to himself, looking straight ahead. Finally, he turns to you.
"Excellent work. Your services will be required again shortly, once we've followed up on a few leads."
"I don't believe we've discussed payment yet. As i'm sure you know by now, there are more useful resources out there than money, but i leave it up to you, to name what you consider a fair price."
His voice has hints of a Russian-esque accent. You can't place it exactly though.

Payment?
Luke never even thought about that. He looks to Cornelius, then down at his feet, but still nothing comes to mind.
"I, uh... I'm really not sure," he says at last. And it's true he has no idea what would be reasonable, or even what he'd want...

A hint of a smile appears on Jason's face.
"Not to worry. We can always hold a favour in reserve. You could do worse."
"We're headed for the address now. We'll go and take a look around, as i strongly doubt Mr. Rescu will have hung around there for too long."

"Right," Luke says. That, he hopes, pretty much responds to everything in turn. Even better, it helps to hide the fact he's mentally kicking himself.

The car stoips, and Jason turns to you, and grins slightly.
"Wait here please."
He, Cornelius, and the driver all get out,and head towards the building you've pulled up outside. It's a small block of apartments, grubby, with only a few lights on upstairs.
They head towards the main entrance, and disappear from your view.
When they returns, some 10 minutes later, their faces are as expressionless and unreadable as when they left.
Jeez, how can some people be so emotionless all the time?
They get back in the car, and the driver starts up the engine, and the car drives away again.
Jason looks back to you again.
"Excellent. Good work Luke. We may not have been able to find our target directly, but, thanks to you, we've established the beginning of our chain of leads. You can go home, for now, but we will be needing you again."

"Great," Luke says. "Happy to be of service."
As if he ever has a choice. He forces a smile that he hopes looks sincere. He glances to Cornelius again, still not certain what it's all leading up to. Likely nothing good.

You get out of the car, and stand on the street as the car moves away, hardly noticing the rain. When it's out of sight, you walk slowly down to your haven, asking yourself all the time just what you've got yourself into, but, as you keep telling yourself, you hardly have the choice.
Once again, you've got some time to pursue whatever you want to again, or we can just skip ahead, the world's your oyster. I promise we're coming to something more interesting soon enough, just sorry that it's taken so long.
