He mumbles something, then he speaks loudly with a calm excitement, very easy to overhear, "I am with Jessie and the lick sitting behind us in the theatre--not sure who comes with me... But I am on my way!"
He runs back up to the others, then, mostly to Jessie, but he glances at John, tentatively including him, "Trey is at a place that is under attack! I'm going to help." From his calm you can tell he has faced such situations before. "Come or not, it is up to you."
He runs to the nearest busy street to flag down a taxi, leaving them to make their decisions quickly.
His mind races.
Time to put the cards on the table.
Could Trey be setting me/us up? If so, he is too good. I hope that's not it. It is a chance to meet my end or to make some enemies of the attackers, but I shall take this leap of faith for Trey. I need to forge bonds not allow them to slip away. If these ones come, they shall show their mettle.

He glances back with a scowl, "You said we could let him go. 'He is nothing.' Is not that what you said?
Thus released, I owe you nothing."

He spots a taxi and flags it down.
He smiles his too wide rictus grin and replies, "Perhaps it did. But, I see, if one does not find you funny he lacks a sense of humor." He loses the grin as the taxi draws closer, "There is grim work ahead, hide behind your humor if you like, but I prefer to think seriously for now."

I lean in close and whisper darkly "yes i do enjoy a good laugh before i must do 'grim work' as you put it." I let out a sigh and pull back again. "If you prefer me to stay quite then quite I will be."

[I'm taking some liberties with the taxi just to move things along, hope this is okay, mastergeorge.]
He doesn't respond. So far, this one is not bad.
He gets into the front seat of the taxi, leaving the back seat for John [and presumably Jessie], then gives the driver the address and shows him a $100 bill. "As fast as you can, and this is yours."
When they draw closer, he tells the driver to stop a block away.
